Woodside Senior Madyson Hansbrough was chosen as the High School Winner of the 4th Annual Senator Mason Art Contest! Senator Mason started the contest in his first year as Delegate in 2014. "Our students are exceptional and I'm proud that we live in a community that values the arts as a basic tenet of education and actively supports it. I look forward to bringing these pieces to Richmond once again and hanging them in my office for the rest of the Commonwealth to see," said Senator Monty Mason. This year's contest resulted in more than 65 entries from students throughout the 1st Senate District that were judged by local artists Bob Oller and Karen Peterson. Madyson's piece is a vivid image of flowers and a young woman on a cliff drawn using pen and ink. Her teacher is Richard Shelton.

About the Art Deptartment

The Art Department at Woodside is comprised of Magnet and Non-Magnet students.  They work on various fundamentals throughout the school year depending on the course in which they are enrolled.  A major focus in all classes is in preparing artwork for school coffee houses, displays, contests, competitions and college portfolios.

This is a sampling of work representing the various courses and levels of work that our students produce.  Click on the artist's name to see a larger version.
